At the same appointment where we decided to try a yeast elimination protocol for Juliana, her naturopathic doctor asked “how much is she eating? And how much is she exercising?” She offered that we could photograph Juliana’s food and she would calculate the number of calories Juliana was consuming per day for a few days. I explained that we had a system of protein units, and the protein units came bound with a certain amount of fat, and Juliana stayed at a low (but not too low) number of these units per day–one that should produce weight loss. This system is based on Atkins. I could tell the doctor wasn’t buying it and was otherwise out of ideas other than that Juliana was eating too much and not exercising enough.
Time to keep looking.
